ROOTVASC: root vascular pattern in cereals

The vascular tissues provide the main transport system for water and sugars in all higher plants and may represent an important trait that can be manipulated in crop plants. We have made significant contributions towards understanding how vascular pattern is set in the model plant Arabidopsis through identifying new genetic components and developing a multiscale computational model to simulate vascular patterning in silico.

In this project we will characterise the activity of orthologous genes in rice and test whether similar regulatory networks control vascular patterning in rice and Arabidopsis.
